"Wajid, who was suffering from kidney and throat infection, tested positive for Covid-19 later", an ABP News report quoted a source as saying.

Wajid Khan, 42, tested positive for COVID-19 and died of a cardiac arrest.

Quoting sources, ABP News reported that Wajid's mother is infected with COVID-19 and is now admitted to the hospital.

Razina Khan is admitted to Surana Hospital in Chembur, where Wajid Khan was also undergoing treatment.

Fortunately, her condition has improved now.

The first death in Bollywood to be attributed to the disease sent shock waves through the industry, which is still reeling from the loss of two luminaries, Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor, in April. They created music for Salman Khan's Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya and they continued composing songs for the actor in the Dabangg series, Partner, to name a few.

The late musician was laid to rest at the city's Versova cemetery on Monday afternoon.

Stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra conveyed condolences on social media.

They became his favoured composers, collaborating on films such as the 2007 comedy Partner, the 2009 action blockbuster Wanted and 2010's top grosser Dabangg (Fearless). Wajid Khan's longtime collaborator Salman Khan, in his eulogy piece for the music composer, wrote: "Wajid, will always love, respect, remember and miss you as a person and your talent". Wajid Khan recently co-composed Salman's tracks Pyaar Karona and Bhai Bhai.
