Twitch, the gaming platform owned by Amazon, said Trump's channel was suspended over rules violations and that the offending content was removed. So if we have speech on Reddit that's preventing people from using Reddit the way that we intend it to be used, or that prevents us from achieving our mission, then it's actually a very easy decision'.

Twitch pointed to statements during the June 20, 2020 Tulsa, Oklahoma campaign rally and other Trump events as direct evidence of hateful content that goes against Twitch rules and guidelines.

Twitch is not the first social platform to re-evaluate its position on what is considered hate speech. As of today, Twitch has suspended Trump's channel and Reddit has shut down the pro-Trump Subreddit known as The_Donald. And you call 911 and they say, "I'm sorry, this number's no longer working".

Two particular acts by the Trump account triggered the suspension: the re-posting of an infamous 2015 Trump campaign appearance, in which he describes Mexican immigrants as "rapists".

The president's posts on social media have always vexed platform companies in Silicon Valley, but tensions escalated in the aftermath of the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Twitch defines as "any content or activity that promotes, encourages, or facilitates discrimination, denigration, objectification, harassment, or violence based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability or serious medical condition or veteran status, and is prohibited". "Whether it's a young woman, an old woman, a young man or an old man and you're sleeping".

"Like anyone else, politicians on Twitch must adhere to our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines", Twitch said at the time. It's a major company saying to Trump and his campaign that his content is hateful. "We banned r/The_Donald because it has not done so, despite every opportunity", Mr Huffman said on Monday.

With Donald Trump's tendency to explode at curtailing of his more extreme lies and vitriol, it will remain to be seen if he takes the suspension and content removal with grace.

Reddit clarified that it allows views across the political spectrum on Reddit, but said "all communities must work within our policies and do so in good faith, without exception". The company said it took down a total of 2,000 forums, known as the site as "subreddits", most of which it said were inactive or had few users.
