Putin, Trump discuss G7 summit, oil markets over phone

A spokesman for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the United Kingdom would not support Russian Federation joining the group, while conceding the US had the right as the host country to invite Russian Federation as a guest.

Asked for his reaction about Trump's plans to invite India and three other nations to G7 summit, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a media that "China believes all worldwide organisations and conferences should be conducive to mutual trust between countries to upholding multilateralism, promoting world peace and development".

The importance of enhancing the bilateral dialogue on strategic stability and confidence-building measures in the military sector was noted.

"Russia was excluded from the G-7 after it invaded Crimea a number of years ago, and its continued disrespect and flaunting of global rules and norms is why it remains outside of the G-7, and it will continue to remain out", Trudeau said.

"I don't feel that as a G7 it properly represents what's going on in the world".

Leaders from the Group of Seven - the US, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan - had been scheduled to meet by videoconference after coronavirus scuttled plans to gather in-person at Camp David, the US presidential retreat outside Washington.

Last year, French President Emanuel Macron had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 Summit.

Russian Federation left the G7 group, formerly called G8, in 2014, in the wake of disagreements over events that took place in Ukraine and Crimea.

RUSSIA's return to the G7 has been opposed by two members.

"At recent G7s, the host country has invited countries from outside the group".

"It's not clear to me, at least from President Trump's statement, whether he is looking at a second-day addition with a first G7 conclave". He still has not committed to attending in the fall.

"We believe this is the role of the overwhelming majority of the countries in the world. And that's certainly what I'm hoping to continue to see". "So it might be a G-10, G-11, and it could be after the election is over", Trump said.

"And if there's ever a more critical time to bring the G7 together, this is it". Mr. Kirton said Canadians are still dying of COVID-19 and worldwide co-ordination is needed.
