Punjab reports 161 new COVID-19 cases; state`s tally at 5216

This is the fifth consecutive day that coronavirus infections have increased by more than 15,000.

India saw a surge of 3,38,324 infections from June 1 till date as the lockdown restrictions eased. Of the total 5,48,318 cases, 2,10,120 are said to be active and a 3,21,723 patients have been cured of deadly disease.

The recovery rate of patients improved slightly to 54.62 per cent on Saturday from 53.39 per cent on Friday.

On Saturday morning the number of COVID-19 cases in the country was 508,953, and the death toll 15,685. Delhi's coronavirus tally now stands at over 83,000-mark, and its death toll has mounted to 2,623, Delhi authorities told. "Sunday, 16,095 deaths related to novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country", reads information released by the ministry. While Karnataka has registered 1,267 COVID-19 cases, Bengaluru Urban has recorded 783 new coronavirus cases. The tally has now surpassed 5 lakh, i.e., in just a period of 39 days, India has added 4 lakh cases. State Govt is taking measures to ensure every COVID patient gets best treatment, said Dr Sudhakar K, State Minister.

The number of containment zones in Delhi has risen to 417.

The Madhya Pradesh government said it will launch a "Kill Corona" campaign from July 1 to control the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

2,31,095 samples were tested yesterday and the total number of samples tested up to 27 June is 82,27,802, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Recoveries exceed active casesThe gap between recoveries and active cases of Covid-19 has crossed 1,00,000, the Union health ministry said on Sunday. India now has 1026 diagnostic laboratories, including 741 in the government sector and 285 in the private sector, he said.
