Odion Ighalo agrees loan extension at Manchester United

Manchester United have extended Odion Ighalo's loan until the end of January, with United agreeing a £6m fee with Shanghai Shenhua and continuing to pay just under half of Ighalo's £300,000-a-week wages.

The 30-year-old's original four-month loan deal was due to expire today (Sunday), but the club have been working on a resolution to keep Ighalo at Old Trafford over the past couple of weeks.

The Premier League giants lured the Nigerian worldwide to Old Trafford during the January transfer window on a six-month deal following Marcus Rashford's back injury.

Ighalo scored four goals in eight appearances for United after joining on loan in January - he scored twice in the Europa League, and two more in the FA Cup, at a rate of one goal every 80 minutes.

Ighalo's loan extension means there will be a fight for places up front as well as in midfield, and it is a dilemma Solskjaer is looking forward to having.

Emergency visas will not be granted for those involved in the Chinese Super League, meaning Ighalo would have been unable to play for Shanghai in the coming months.

Ighalo, who is also set to sign a contract extension with Shanghai, will now be available to finish the campaign when it restarts on June 17, though sources have told ESPN United have no option or obligation to buy.
