Cam Newton says ‘Farewell Carolina, Hello New England’

Quarterback Cam Newton was the NFL MVP back in 2015 as a member of the Carolina Panthers.

After the New England Patriots agreed to terms on a one-year deal with quarterback Cam Newton, the Denver Broncos sent a flawless tweet. After Mahomes is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and Baltimore Ravens MVP Lamar Jackson at +600.

In addition to the Lisfranc injury he suffered past year, Newton also had shoulder issues in 2018. His prove-it deal with the Patriots could lead to big money in free agency next year if he plays well and the Lisfranc fracture that limited him to two games in 2019 doesn't burden his season. He also had multiple shoulder surgeries in his career. New England has not announced Newton's signing, and the video turns to the Patriots only in the closing seconds, when the team's logo appears with the words "Cam Newton, New England Patriots, 2020" followed by a screen with the words "Let's get to work".

Sherman might have a point in National Football League teams undervaluing Newton, but a one-year deal with the Patriots with a chance to start under Belichick is about as good as it gets for a quarterback searching for a job in late June.

NESN's Doug Kyed says it's all about health with Newton, and that his physical skills put him atop the Patriots QB depth chart though he'll still have to win the job with consistency and staying on the field.
