Archer to join England training after negative COVID-19 test

England start a three-Test series against the West Indies in Southampton on July 8, but fans will be absent due to the coronavirus.

Last week, the European Central Bank confirmed all 702 Covid-19 tests carried out in preparation for the three-match series - at the Ageas Bowl and Emirates Old Trafford - had come back negative.

The move comes after the death of African-American George Floyd in USA police custody last month.


"We believe we have a duty to show solidarity and also to help raise awareness", ESPNcricinfo quoted skipper Jason Holder as saying. We have come to England to retain the Wisden Trophy, but we are very conscious of happenings around the world and the fight for justice and equality, ' explained Holder.

"We did not take our decision lightly", he added.

"We know what it is for people to make judgements because of the colour of our skin, so we know what it feels like, this goes beyond the boundary. Until we get that as people, we can not stop".

"The entire process of his exit and re-entry to the bio-secure location was approved and managed by the medical teams of Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB)", said a statement.


Head coach Phil Simmons will spend three more days in isolation as a precaution after leaving the secure Windies facility here to attend a funeral on Friday, media reports have said.

Simmons will not oversee the final four-day warm-up match starting Monday at Old Trafford but fast bowler Alzarri Joseph told reporters Saturday his absence would not impact preparations.
