The company is turning on its Ultra Wideband 5G service in parts of San Diego May 28; that marks the 35th USA city with the service.

"Our customers' need for 5G is accelerating". Still, it's a nice upgrade for anyone who has access to Verizon's 5G network.

Verizon operates seven 5G Labs in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, designed as incubators for the 5G technologies that will change how we live, work and play.

In San Diego, 5G Ultra Wideband service initially will be concentrated in parts of Mission Valley near Westfield Mission Valley and SDCCU Stadium, Linda Vista along Linda Vista Road, Kensington near El Cajon Blvd, and in Banker’s Hill on 1st Avenue.

"RootMetrics recorded 5G results for Verizon in eight of the of the 55 markets tested in 1H 2020, and Verizon's 5G maximum download speeds were remarkable in Boise, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia", RootMetrics said. Which is more about coverage, whereas Verizon is starting with mmWave, which is more about speeds. Previously, Verizon's 5G was only used for downloads, while uploading on their network was still handled by 4G LTE. This makes it easier to upload high-def videos to social networks, back-up work and school projects to the cloud and play massive multiplayer games. The operator is also activating the 5G uplink across its footprint, giving customers around 30 percent faster upload speeds compared to LTE. Chicago's 5G Home subscribers also will be able to take advantage of this newly added feature. Verizon is working with these technology companies to extend the company's millimeter wave coverage in public areas, outdoor venues, and, more importantly, inside buildings. In addition to that, the real-life numbers are likely to drop as more and more users start connecting to the budding network.

OpenSignal is out with its latest report and it's all about 5G.

25G upload coverage area differs from 5G download coverage area. Headquartered in New York City and with a presence around the world, Verizon generated revenues of $131.9 billion in 2019. The bad news is that 5G speeds vary widely from one provider to the next - and so does the availability of 5G signals.
