Via Variety, Paramount Pictures has confirmed that a Sonic the Hedgehog movie sequel will be produced. It will see Jeff Fowler once again at the helm to direct the movie, with Pat Casey and Josh Miller returning to write the script.

The script is now being written for the "Sonic the Hedgehog" sequel, so don't expect to see the follow-up anytime soon.

While a follow-up was teased in the original film's post-credits stinger, the sequel is now in the very early stages of development and it's not yet certain which cast members, outside of the titular hedgehog (Ben Schwartz), will return. Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi, and director Tim Miller (Deadpool) will serve as executive producers.

The original film, based on the video game franchise published by Sega, starred Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic The Hedgehog and Jim Carray as Doctor Robotnik. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.

The first Sonic movie, which didn't have the easiest time late in production, went on to have the top-grossing opening weekend ever for a video game movie, which I know is a low bar to clear, but it still cleared it.

Sonic the Hedgehog was among the slew of films released early on home entertainment after theatres were shuttered due to the COVID-19 crisis.
