Spadafora said that Italian Cup semi-final matches, between Inter Milan and Napoli and AC Milan and Juventus, could be played the week before the championship returned.

Rome: Serie A will learn the fate of the Italian season on Thursday with a government decision awaited on whether football can resume after three months in a country hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

There are 12 rounds remaining in Serie A, plus four matches that were postponed from the 25th round. Third-place Inter Milan is nine points behind Juventus but has played a match less.

Sky Sport has reported this evening that Italian Minister of Sport, Vincenzo Spadafora, has given the OK for play to resume following a meeting with Italian FA president, Gabriele Gravina, and Serie A chief Paolo Dal Pino.

The announcement of the resumption of the Italian league comes just after the English Premier League confirmed it will restart on June 17.
