"The virtual event could be held June 3, though some people also cautioned that plans have been in flux and that the date may change", report Bloomberg.

Interestingly, neither report revealed exactly what Sony might want to show off, although showing off the system's physical design seems like a safe bet. But why has it taken so long for us to learn more about the PS5? This all feels like an overreaction from where we're sitting, but the sentence has surfaced at the same time as an Xbox Series X blog post, which outlines Microsoft's approach to backwards compatibility in intricate detail. It can also be safely assumed that massive PS4 sendoff titles like The Last Of Us Part 2 and CD Project Red's Cyberpunk 2077 will get PS5 makeovers, though backward compatibility has indeed been confirmed.

What's not clear is how much gameplay we'll see.

The outlets have tried to keep expectations about the content of the PS5 showcase in check, especially after the less-than-favorable reaction to system architect Mark Cerny's high-level "Road to PS5" presentation in mid-March.

Nibel on Twitter backed up this, with a collection of tweets from other Journalists and industry insiders hinting at a June 3rd date for the PS5 reveal. Though not all are slated for launch, it does provide further insight into what the opening months of the PS5's cycle will look like, and should be essential information for those contemplating a day-one purchase.

In any case, if there really is a big PS5 reveal coming a week from today, expect to hear something official about it pretty soon.

Assuming a live event takes place, Tom's Guide will cover it as it happens.
