Though new regulations allow for players to see out their contracts past the original expiration date in a bid to finish the extended seasons, it is not the case with Shanghai Shenhua, who value Ighalo highly and want him back in China as the Super League is set to commence soon.

Both clubs are still negotiating on extending Ighalo's loan deal which runs out at the end of May.

Shanghai Shenhua is ready to allow Odion Ighalo remain at Manchester United until January 2021, Sky Sports reports.

"The loan deal went to the end of May now, so obviously he's supposed to be going back", Solskjaer told MUTV.

And with United reluctant on making his deal permanent, the Chinese club wants their player back ahead of the league resumption in July.

"We're in dialogue and hopefully [he can stay]".

"But at the moment nothing's been agreed yet".

Meanwhile, Solskjaer said he is confident of having Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford fit if the league resumes next month.

England global Rashford had been out with a back injury since January while France's Pogba had missed most of the season with a foot problem.

Although he may have already played his last game for the club, Ighalo is taking part in training with his United team-mates at their Carrington base.

"Hopefully now we've proved we can do this safely and we can move to the next step". No reaction so far, touch wood.

His deal was due at the end of this season but the outbreak of deadly coronavirus means he would not stay until the Premier League is concluded.

The Red Devils are also still in the hunt for silverware in the FA Cup and Europa League, which UEFA hopes to complete in August.
