The 35-year-old "Lust for Life" singer posted a series of comments explaining her thoughts further upon being met with criticism for a post earlier on Thursday (May 21), in which she name-checked stars like Beyonce, Kehlani and Ariana Grande while discussing how critics suggest she's glamorizing abuse. People targeted Lana for trying to put her music and its content on the same level as the biggest musicians in the world.

The main issue that people are taking with the statement is her specific singling out of women, especially women of color. Why specifically the "urban" girls?

Others argued that Del Rey was trying to use these artists' successes as proof of her own oppression and insert herself into a conversation where she didn't belong. Girl, sing your little cocaine carols and leave us alone.

She went on: "The singers I mentioned are my favourite singers so if you want to try and make a bone to pick out of that, like you always do be my guest".

People slammed Lana for comparing her struggles to those of women of colour, arguing that she will never understand the hardship they endure.

Lana wrote: "Now that Doja Cat, Ariana, Camila, Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, fucking, cheating etc - can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling attractive by being in love even if the relationship is not flawless, or dancing for money - or whatever I want - without being crucified or saying that I'm glamorising abuse?" It's about advocating for a more delicate personality, not white women - thanks for the Karen comments tho.

Over the past few years, Lana has found her music getting categorized and stereotyped.

Responding on Instagram, Del Rey said: "Don't ever ever ever call me racist". Del Rey's fashion decisions has often sparked social commentary.

Later on in the letter she said she was "fed up" for being criticized for her lyrics.

Superstar Lana Del Rey is set to release a brand new album on September 5th.

"It doesn't change the fact that I haven't had the same opportunity to express what I wanted to express without being completely decimated".
