Dak Prescott, Cowboys still only disagree over length of contract

The 30-year-old's career has been plagued by substance-abuse and off-field problems and has not played since November of 2015, when he was then suspended for violating the league's substance-abuse and personal-conduct policies as a member of the Raiders. However, the former second-round pick remains suspended indefinitely, and a report from April indicated that we wouldn't receive any clarity until after the NFL Draft.

Dallas has had a busy offseason, signing wide receiver Amari Cooper to a five-year, $100m deal, adding a free agent class headlined by kicker Greg Zuerlein, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and quarterback Andy Dalton, and drafting wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in the first round last month. Still on the Raiders' roster, he was released in 2018 following a domestic violence incident in which he was named a suspect. Smith having that familiarity with a coach, especially one that helped guide him to 33.5 sacks in his first two years, will be another brick to a solid foundation for him going forward.

Smith was a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro selection during the 2012 season. He applied for reinstatement in the National Football League in 2016, but his case was deferred until the next offseason and he was never officially granted reinstatement. For me to have the opportunity to get back and do something that I love, something that I enjoyed - just to have that opportunity again means a lot. He has played in just 16 games since 2015, his rookie season, due to suspension.

"I think the overall emotion is I'm grateful".

The Cowboys still have a suspended pass rusher under contract in Randy Gregory, who is seeking reinstatement. I want the same thing out of my teammates and I'm sure those guys in the locker room feel the same way, and with that mentality, the sky is the limit.
