Efforts should be made to stop the risky practice, he said.

"China has no intention to change, still replace, the United States", he said, according to the Washington Post.

During the same period China's trading goods with BRI partner countries has exceeded $7.8 trillion while direct Chinese investments have topped $110 billion, he said.

He added both sides must build mutual trust and break the lingering stalemate.

Wang today repeated China's stance that Hong Kong affairs were its internal affairs and said the principle of non-interference must be upheld by all countries. Wang said that China was prepared to work together with the United States in the spirit of mutual respect and interconnectedness.

"Aside from the devastation caused by the novel coronavirus, there is also a political virus spreading through the United States", he said.

China is "open" to global cooperation to identify the source of the novel coronavirus, but any investigation must be led by the World Health Organization and "free of political interference", China's foreign minister said Sunday. "Some politicians completely disregard basic facts and have fabricated too many lies targeting China, and plotted too many conspiracies".

"I want to say here: Don't waste precious time any longer, and don't ignore lives".

"We will continue to help Africa fight the pandemic, channel anti-epidemic materials as much as possible to developing countries in Africa, and consider sending a new group of medical experts to the region", Wang added.

Wang Yi said the United States had been infected by a "political virus" compelling figures there to continually attack China.

He said China was "open" to global cooperation to identify the source of the novel coronavirus, but stressed that any investigation must be "free of political interference". Trump recently said that he may completely end US funding for the World Health Organization over its cozy ties with Beijing. The goal should be to enhance the scientific understanding of this type of virus so that people can deal more effectively with major infectious diseases in the future, he said. "Fairness means the process be free of political interference, respect the sovereignty of all countries, and oppose any presumption of guilt". The move drew swift condemnation from pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong, who defied virus-related social-distancing measures and rallied in the city center even as Wang spoke.

Instead, it should be conducive to enhancing performances of various United Nations systems, to strengthening worldwide solidarity and cooperation among countries, and to improving the global public health system and governance capacity, Wang said. "In the battle against COVID-19, China and Africa have again stood by each other", Wang said on the sidelines of the third session of the 13th National Peoples Congress (NPC), the country's annual legislative session.

Wang stressed that the countries have different systems, cautioning that a hostile US attitude would threaten bilateral cooperation and hurt America's own development.
