Cordero had been treated with blood thinners to help with clotting in his leg after initially being admitted to ICU in the USA, but his doctors had to stop the treatment because it was causing internal bleeding.

Initially, Cordero was admitted to the intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif., on March 31 and remained on a ventilator, unconscious, until last week after having contracted the life-threatening virus.

Cordero, 41, had recently awoken from a medically induced coma after weathering the loss of his right leg, two mini-strokes, a septic infection and fungus in his lungs. Kloots said. "I have my masters in OPTIMISM!"
