Tom Brady blamed Bill Belichick leaving the Patriots

Bucs general manager Jason Licht was a player-personnel executive with the Patriots in 2002 and from 2009-11, so he's familiar with the positive impact Brady has on the rest of his team. "The team to beat in the East is the Patriots".

But in the meantime, the Pats are the team to beat. And as long as Bill Belichick's there, you're talking about probably the greatest head coach of all time that was paired with the greatest quarterback of all time. "I think it's amusing and comical that people are writing the Patriots off - as long as Belichick is there, until we beat them, we've done nothing". Oh, and Bledsoe was traded to Buffalo in 2002 and started for the Bills a year after being hit hard but cleanly, and injured by the Jets' Mo Lewis - setting into motion almost 19 years worth of stability at QB for the Patriots. In some quarters, even the San Francisco 49ers were expected to have a better shot at signing the veteran quarterback than Tampa Bay, despite the fact that the Super Bowl LIV runners-up remained committed to Jimmy Garoppolo. They always talk about the character of Belichick and say it as if it were something good, but honestly I was overwhelmed, exhausted and fed up of having to deal with him.

Yes, Tom Brady is out of the AFC East, and yes, the Bills were this close to a playoff win last season, but he's not ready to be considered a favorite.

Matt Cassel: 15 games in 2008, when Brady injured his knee in the season opener. I think it's comical that people are writing off the Patriots.

So it's hard to blame the Bills for refusing to believe the great Patriots machine is dead until they see it with their own eyes.

Buffalo GM Brandon Beane has been active this offseason in acquiring Stefon Diggs from Minnesota to give Josh Allen another weapon at wideout. Their biggest losses in free agency - defensive linemen Jordan Phillips and Shaq Lawson - have been offset with the additions of Mario Addison and Vernon Butler. But a friend of Brady's went on the record telling O'Connor that Brady was "Belichick'd out" after spending 20 seasons under the coach's demanding rule. You would think that's enough to beat the Patriots, but you never know with Belichick on the other side.
