Thomas Müller extends contract at Bayern Munich

"Thomas is a special player for us, a figurehead for the club and our fans, a leader who shows the way on the pitch and has achieved a lot with FC Bayern", Bayern's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said in a statement.

"The FC Bayern Munich first team will return to training at Sabener Strasse in small groups from Monday, April 6".

Bayern Munich said Sunday that players will return to training on Monday for the first time since the Bundesliga was suspended due to the coronavirus.

The Bavarians added that in line with government policy, all hygiene measures were strictly observed to stem the spread of the virus.

The German league halted matches Friday, March 13, until Thursday, April 2, but a meeting among clubs later resolved to have the suspension extended to Thursday, April 30.

"Training will take place with no members of the public present", a club statement read.

The Bundesliga's bosses are reportedly considering resuming the season behind closed doors, but an official announcement is yet to be made. They would have to continue living privately under special security conditions. I would be pessimistic.

Germany now finds itself in the midst of a Covid-19 lockdown, with the illness infecting more than 100,000 people in the country, killing 1,584.

Bayern are four points clear in the Bundesliga table.
