Pep Guardiola’s mother dies after contracting Covid-19

Pep Guardiola's mother has died after contracting the coronavirus, Manchester City have confirmed.

The club expressed sadness over the death of Dolors Sala Carrió in Manresa, Barcelona after contracting coronavirus.

City announced the tragic news on Monday, April 6, before paying tribute to the Spaniard manager. "She was 82-years-old", City mentioned in a publish on their official Twitter account.

Dolors saw Guardiola win six Spanish titles and the European Cup as a player at Barcelona, while he has won many titles as a manager with Barca, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

Spain has been one of the world's worst-affected countries in the coronavirus crisis, with just over 13,000 people dying from Covid-19 - a death toll second only to Italy.

He also issued a video as part of the club's Cityzens At Home initiative urging fans to stay at home and to follow the advice of scientists, doctors and nurses.
