Resident Evil 3 is a remake of the 1999 classic Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, now completely remade for PS4 which earned a "Good" in our full Resident Evil 3 review.

Today in "take this with a small ocean's worth of grains of salt" news, a first-person Resident Evil 8 is rumored to be on the way.

New leaks have suggested that the new game will release next year for the PlayStation 4 and 5, the Xbox One and Series X, and for PC.

What he has to say about the next Resident Evil is that it began life as Resident Evil 8, but for most of its development was rebranded as a spin-off, a gap-filler that would have been called Resident Evil Revelations 3 (the Revelations name being used for side games that do things a little differently, like the excellent Resident Evil Revelations 2).

Noting that they've stopped tap dancing round their leak info, Dusk Golem says that the next Resident Evil project, due in 2021, is "Resident Evil 8".

"The 2021 Resident Evil game started development in late 2016; by the time it releases, it'll have been in development for 4-4.5 years". During most of its development it existed as Revelations 3.

As per a renowned and trusted industry insider, a new Resident Evil game is under works and will launch next year.

Golem continued with the tweets, explaining that the Revelations 3 video game underwent dozens of big changes to make it more suited as a mainline title before reiterating that the game will be cross-gen. This alleged next iteration will be first person, with "serious departures" and a focus on hallucinations, occultism and insanity (um, yes?).

The horrifying Nemesis creature returns in the Resident Evil 3 Remake, and he's every bit as terrifying as you remember.

If the rumours are true and the game will be releasing next year, an announcement shouldn't be far off so watch this space.
