Maxey's decision comes a day after sophomore point guard Ashton Hagans announced he will enter the draft after two seasons with Kentucky.

The 6-foot-3 guard burst onto the college scene with 26 points in an opening night win over the No. 1 ranked Michigan State Spartans at Madison Square Garden. "I know I'm a better player and man for embracing the challenge of playing for Kentucky". You know it's killing me that we didn't get the chance to compete for one this season, but I understand why we couldn't. I also wanted to become a better all-around point guard.

Kentucky's run of one-and-done players will continue. "I'm happy for him and his family and will be behind them the entire way". "We've made a lot of memories, and I can't thank you enough for always supporting me and believing in a young kid from Cartersville, Georgia".

The 19-year-old also finished second in assists (3.2) and ranked third in rebounding (4.3).

Kentucky guard Tyrese Maxey (3) reacts after making a 3-point basket against Texas A&M during the first half of an NCAA college basketball game Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, in College Station, Texas.

Against Louisville, he made a career-high nine field goals (on 14 shots), sunk a career-best four 3-pointers and tied a career high with seven rebounds.

ESPN projects Maxey as the No. 6 pick in its most recent 2020 mock draft... In a December 28 overtime win over then No. 3-ranked Louisville, Maxey scored 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting (4-of-5 from 3-point line). The league's coaches picked him for the All-SEC Second Team and the SEC All-Freshman Team.

Hagans was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 and was once again UK's best on-ball defender this season with a team-high 58 steals. He averaged 15.5 points per game on 42.9% shooting over the final 12 games, scoring in double figures in 10 of those.
