Earlier, he said Hobby Lobby had properly closed its stores during the state's stay-home order but then reopened.

Last month, Hobby Lobby founder David Green, a conservative Christian, reportedly cited the power for God as part of his justification for keeping stores open.

Many state and local governments have issued orders to close all nonessential businesses to curb the spread of COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus. "I sent a cease & desist letter to their general counsel".

Hobby Lobby stores across the USA are expected close their doors Friday after attempting to stay open as an essential business in some states that invoked stay-at-home orders.

A Hobby Lobby in Garland was still open when deputies arrived there, handed the letter to the manager and watched to make sure it shut down. Instead, furloughed employees were encouraged to take full advantage of the USA government's coronavirus stimulus package.

Employees are being encouraged to file unemployment claims with their state unemployment commissions. Employees will still have medical, dental, life, and long-term disability benefits for employees while furloughed through at least May 1, 2020, according to Hobby Lobby's statement.

"Over the past several weeks, we implemented several best practices to provide a safer shopping environment, including the installation of physical barriers between customers and cashiers, enhanced cleaning, and the enforcement of social distancing measures. Our honest gratitude goes out to our dedicated employees at this hard time, and we look forward to the day when we can welcome them back, once we are able to reopen".

"If you're still at Hobby Lobby and you work at Hobby Lobby, you go ahead and lock up and leave as soon as possible", the judge said.
