It was announced on Friday that Flick had signed a contract to be Bayern's head coach until 2023, having taken over from Niko Kovac on an interim basis in November.

With 18 wins in 21 competitive matches at the helm, Flick put Bayern on course for a record-extending eighth successive Bundesliga title before the season was interrupted by the coronavirus crisis.

"FC Bayern are very satisfied with Hansi Flick's work". "The team has had a very good development under him, plays attractive football which is reflected in results".

"We're the only German club still present in all three competitions".

"I also like the way he leads the team, his human qualities are convincing, his empathy speaks for him".

"Hansi knows the club's mentality, he knows maximum success is the benchmark for FC Bayern, and I'm delighted we can develop our idea of the club and of football along with him in the years to come". However, the 55-year-old former midfielder turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

It's Flick's first role as a permanent head coach since he left Hoffenheim in November 2005 after over five years with the club, guiding and establishing the Sinsheimers in the third tier and leading them into the DFB Cup for the first time.

Initially, Flick was a short-term solution for two games, then one until Christmas, before he was promoted to boss at least for the current season. Football faces great challenges.

This is important because FC Bayern wants to ensure that the young players find their way from the youth centre [to the first-team] as often and regularly as possible.

In addition, I like the way he leads the team.

Despite his relative inexperience at club level, the coach has proven popular with senior Bayern players who had grown increasingly frustrated under Kovac.

"The discussions with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Oliver Kahn and also Hasan Salihamidzic were excellent and also defined by excellent common count on".
