It’s been almost 1,500 days since MI gas prices were this low

A small gas station in Wisconsin was reportedly selling a gallon of regular for 95 cents on Monday, as prices continue to drop nationwide due to increasing supplies and a drop in demand caused by stay-at-home policies aimed at addressing the coronavirus pandemic.

The goal behind the low prices?

Gas prices are plunging primarily because Floridians are not driving as much as they normally do this time of year.

GasBuddy says the cheapest gas station has fuel for $1.18 per gallon today while the most expensive is $1.99 per gallon.

AAA of Western and Central New York says these national gas prices are the lowest since 2016. That's 45.5 cents per gallon less than a month ago, and 72.7 cents per gallon less than a year ago. "Motorists should continue to be vigilant if they need to fill their tanks- bring hand sanitizer and potentially wipes, but also shop around as the gap between station widens to historic levels".

"The cost for gasoline has dramatically declined in the past month, and there are even more discounts to come", said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group.

Pump prices continue to decline around the country as oil prices have decreased significantly in response to the increasing public health, financial and economic impact of COVID-19 and the crude price war between Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia, AAA said.

The national average fell 10.1 cents per gallon in the past week to $1.97 per gallon.

Sales are down so far that the EPA has delayed the annual switch to summer-blend gas from May 1 to May 20 to give stations more time to clear their stocks.
