Don Giuseppe Berardelli, priest for 47 years, was archpriest of Casnigo in the diocese of Bergamo, in northern Italy, one of the regions hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

The parish had purchased a respirator just for Don Giuseppe, who had become infected by the coronavirus.

Giuseppe Imberti, the mayor of Casnigo the place Berardelli served as leader priest, lavished reward at the hero upon studying about his loss of life.

During Mass at Casa Santa Marta, the pope prayed for doctors, nurses and priests who have died treating coronavirus patients.

Naija News understands that the Priest aged 72, gave out the respirator bought for him by his parishioners to the patient whom he did not know. The youngest priest to die was Fr. Paolo Camminati, who died in the hospital on March 21 at age 53, the outlet reported.

A Catholic priest in Italy is being called a "Martyr of Charity" for refusing a respirator so a younger patient could use it to ward off the coronavirus.

'To accompany the medical workers and volunteers in the work they are doing'. He died this week, one of a growing number of Italians who've succumbed to COVID-19.

Some of these priests had underlying health conditions, it was said, and the youngest to die was 53-year-old Paolo Camminati - the parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes in Piacenza.

Berardelli already had health problems before he tested positive for COVID-19, according to Araberara, an Italian newspaper.

'It is a darkness that we must face, but with the hope that God never abandons us, that he himself has gone through all the suffering to overcome it'.
