YouTube TV To Cancel Subscriptions Purchased From App Store In March

"You're now subscribed to YouTube TV through Apple in-app purchases, so we're writing to let you know that, starting March 13th, 2020, YouTube TV will no longer accept payment through Apple in-app purchases", reads the company's email.

You will be billed one last month of service and then your purchase subscription in the application will be automatically canceled on your billing date after March 13, 2020.

As per the news, the letter was sent to Youtube TV customers who said, from March 13, the company will not accept payments for subscriptions through Apple's in-app system. Depending on how long someone has been a subscriber, Apple takes either a 15 or 30 percent cut of every in-app subscription. Apple device owners will need to re-subscribe to YouTube TV through a web browser.

It is not known why YouTube is terminating YouTube TV subscriptions through ‌App Store‌, but Apple removes a portion of all subscription purchases, so avoiding purchases in the application will allow YouTube to bypass that fee.

An increasing number of popular online services, including Spotify, have stopped entertaining in-app purchases.

YouTube TV has made a decision to risk losing viewers rather than pay Apple a share of its monthly subscription, the report added. However, starting in March, existing customers who are now paying via in-app payments will no longer be able to pay via the App Store. That should come as a bonus to current subscribers on iOS devices - at least you'll be paying less for YouTube TV now.
