Trump and Michael Bloomberg square off in Super Bowl commercials

A 60-second ad from Democratic presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg aired after halftime, with the mother of a boy who was shot to death talking about Bloomberg's support for gun control.

Eric Trump has claimed his father's critics were "enraged" by the president's Super Bowl ad because it showed what he has achieved on prison reform.

Eric believes liberals are angry over the ad because it highlights what Democrats have promised but have been unable to deliver for decades when it comes to criminal justice reform.

"Mike has been a long time donor to progressive causes and has been giving to the DNC, state parties and candidates up and down the ballot ever since Trump won the election", Julie Wood, Bloomberg's campaign spokesperson told Fox News.

Coupled with a series of recent Twitter posts dismissing Mr Bloomberg as "mini Mike", Mr Trump's remarks indicate Mr Trump is keeping a wary eye on the billionaire businessman and former NY mayor as a potentially tough competitor who has the funds to outspend him.

Johnson posted the commercial on Twitter, and she wrote in the legend that two Super Bowls ago was sitting in a prison cell. President Trump has done it. Thousands of families are being reunited. After years of grassroot efforts to secure her freedom, Johnson's release trajectory took a dramatic turn once celebutante Kim Kardashian became her advocate. Indeed, Hudson published a piece in 2016 with a memorable title: "Why Trump Should Oppose 'Criminal-Justice Reform'". Bloomberg's campaign denies that is the case. Really. Does that mean everyone else gets a box?.

Bloomberg has previously goaded Trump about their respective fortunes.

"He is a pathological liar who lies about everything: his fake hair, his obesity, and his spray-on tan," she said.

Many California voters said they were just getting to know Mr Bloomberg.

Bloomberg responded with his own aside: "Looks like our ads are keeping you up at night".

"Uh, very little. I just think of little", the president said.

Mr. Trump in the Fox interview also criticised House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats. There were some really great ones (Google's ad nearly makes me okay with them constantly mining my personal data) and some really bad ones.

"I stand twice as tall as he does on the stage that matters", declared Bloomberg.

Politico Senior Politics Editor Charlie Mahtesian also weighed in, saying: "You can already see the poison working its way through the party".

Trump is expected to give his state of the union speech on Tuesday, and the Republican-controlled USA senate is expected to vote to acquit him in his impeachment trial on Wednesday.

Mr. Trump spent his weekend golfing and mingling with guests at his dues-paying Mar-a-Lago club.

And on Sunday he attended an annual Super Bowl watch party at one of his Florida golf courses, where he and First Lady Melania Trump were welcomed by a performance from a local college marching band and cheerleaders.
