Toyota GR Supra in USA - 47 hp more, 2.0L option

The six-cylinder GR Supra 3.0 is seeing its prices go up for 2021, along with its power output - it now pumps out 382 horsepower instead of 335 hp - but there is still no word on pricing for the 2.0.

Providing a new entry point into Supra ownership is the B48 2.0 litre turbo four-pot formerly reserved for the Japanese market, making 255 hp from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm and 400 Nm between 1,550 and 4,400 rpm - the same tune you'd find in the 330i.


The A91 Edition also comes with Toyota Supra branding on the red front brake callipers, which has also been extended to the range-topping 3.0 Premium model.

Toyota didn't give us a manual transmission with this update, as the four-cylinder Supra will only be available with the same ZF eight-speed automatic as the inline-six is.


The Supra 2.0 has also undergone a weight loss program, dropping 200 pounds for a new total weight of 3,181 pounds. Now, however, there's a new 2021 model coming soon that offers more power, more tech, and even a four-cylinder engine, so whoever paid big markups for last year's model might just be banging their heads against the wall right now. To do this, the company replaced four-piston brake calipers with single-piston ones; tossed the active differential and active suspension for fixed ones; and fitted manually adjustable seats instead of the 14-way electric ones. That's now 382 horse in total, or enough to rocket the three-liter Supra to 60 miles per hour in just 3.9 seconds. According to Toyota's press release, there are "a slew of upgrades throughout that engine" which include new pistons that lower the compression ratio - something not normally associated with adding power unless boost pressure is increased.

On top of the extra power, Toyota also re-tuned the chassis by increasing roll resistance by adding aluminum bracing in the engine bay between the strut towers and radiator support, fitting new bump stops and tweaking the damper tuning. The electric power steering, adaptive damper system, stability control and active rear differential have also been reprogrammed in concert with the hardware changes, making the vehicle more stable through quick transitions.


Also new for the 2021 model year is the A91 Edition, limited to just 1,000 units. The package adds a carbon fiber lip spoiler, matte black wheels, C-pillar graphics, carbon fiber mirror caps, and a two-tone black and blue Alcantara interior. All models now also get the larger 8.8-inch centre display, ditching the previous standard-fit 6.5-inch item.
