Okay, full disclosure. Brad Pitt wasn't actually in attendance at last night's BAFTAs but he still managed to make a cheeky gag about Prince Harry and the whole royal family rigmarole.

While speaking with Express, James said that Middleton seemed to take the lead from Prince William by face-checking him to see if her slight laughter was appropriate.

Pitt won the Best Supporting Actor award for playing Cliff Booth in the Quentin Tarantino film and the award was accepted by his co-star in the film Margot Robbie.

Switching to a more formal tone, Margot Robbie continued to read out Brad Pitt's acceptance speech: "Thank you to the academy for this extreme honour". "Hey, Britain! Heard you just became single", a reference to Pitt's recent divorce from Hollywood star Angelina Jolie. Welcome to the club. "Wishing you the best with the divorce settlement", said Margo Robbie, who read Pitt's speech.

After shocked gasps from the audience, Margot added: "His words not mine!"

Cameras quickly cut to William and Kate and showed the Duke of Cambridge clapping with an awkward smile, while the Duchess of Cambridge looked at her husband with a laugh.

This year, after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose to step down as senior royals to live more independent lives, British fans cheekily named their exit from the monarchy "Megxit", after Brexit.

Another asked: "Serious question. did Will and Kate NOT realize there would be royal/Harry jokes tonight?"

Growing up, Princes William and Harry would often join their grandmother for tea and Harry always had a trick or two up his sleeve, Marie Claire reported.

And in said speech, Brad Pitt made a very amusing joke about Prince Harry leaving he royal family.
