Petry, Price lead Canadiens past Panthers 4-0

They were coming off a bye week and hadn't played since January 21, prompting Florida general manager Dale Tallon to say: "The first game back is always tough".

But he wouldn't be playing in the National Hockey League in a way he hadn't necessarily considered before meeting with general manager Marc Bergevin at the Bell Centre that morning to receive the news he was being sent down to the AHL and that he would be suiting up for the Laval Rocket that evening.

Petry has seven points (one goal, six assists) in two games against Florida this season. Price outduelled Sergei Bobrovsky in the battle of the NHL's two highest-paid goaltenders. The Canadiens (24-22-7) had a jump in their step and Florida simply could not keep up. Four Panthers players surrounded Tatar in the crease, but the winger still managed to get his stick on the puck, earning his team-leading 19th goal.

Canadiens coach Claude Julien said he didn't like the defense his team played in front of Price in that December 29 game. "Clearly they were the more determined group in that area". Bobrovsky stopped 31-of-35 shots.

Team captain Aleksander Barkov left Saturday afternoon's game against the Montreal Canadiens early, and did not return.

Building on a strong defensive effort in Buffalo on Thursday, the Habs came home to the Bell Centre on Saturday and kicked off the Super Bowl weekend with a 4-0 win over the Florida Panthers.

It was Price's third shutout of the season and No. 47 of his career. He made his best stop on Jonathan Huberdeau on a breakaway in the first. "Very grateful for that".

Barkov has actually become a full- blown super star in Florida considering that the club prepared him second in general in 2013, making his health of vital value to a capacity Panthers playoffrun While it appears the team will need to wait till Sunday to discover his status, head coach Joel Quenneville informed press reporters after the game that the team does not believe it is major.
