Following the tragic death of basketball legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven other victims on January 26, Oscar presenter Spike Lee chose to honour the late star with a touching fashion display as he walked the red carpet. He showed up on the Oscars red carpet wearing a purple and gold suit jacket, which had the number 24 emblazoned on the front and back.

In Bryant's acceptance speech at the 2018 Oscars, he spoke about how grateful he was to have created his award-winning short film.

The filmmaker, along with his wife Tonya Lewis Lee, stepped out on the red carpet on Sunday in Hollywood paying tribute to the basketball star who passed away on January 26. Red Carpet pre-show, Lee said that he has personally picked his outfit for the red carpet this year.

"Tribute, honor, homage. We all miss him", the Oscar-winning director said.

Bryant, who died tragically last month with eight others in a helicopter crash, was fresh on the minds of filmmakers Sunday night in Los Angeles.

The animated short, narrated by Bryant and directed and animated by Glen Keane, focused on the letter Bryant wrote for The Players' Tribune in November 2015 in which he announced his retirement. "So you can see the growth, you can see the love".
