We always knew it was an intense, on/off romance.

It seems gravity kept pulling John Mayer and Jessica Simpson back together.

Speaking to the TODAY show in a segment set to air February 4, Simpson spoke to host Hoda Kotb and shared that she and Mayer, who met back in 2005, had a challenging relationship.

The singer turned fashion designer also reveals that there was a lot of intimacy in her relationship with John Mayer, and they both loved each other. "That was easy, but the relationship was very complex", she explains. "I constantly anxious that I wasn't smart enough for him", she shared in her book, noting she sometimes had someone check the spelling and grammar of her texts to him.

One of the those times came after the surprise end of her relationship with Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo in 2009. But Simpson adds that it was shocking to know that Mayer in an interview with Playboy, called her 'sexual napalm.' She adds how she felt, post Mayer's interview and adds that she deleted his contact number. In the book, available Tuesday, Simpson has tackled very personal topics, including her history of diet pill use, what led her to quit drinking and the sexual abuse she suffered as a child.
