Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been described as "desperate" to return to fitness and play a "leading role" in what is likely to be a crucial season run-in for the Old Trafford club.

Asked by reporters after Juventus's Coppa Italia tie against AC Milan on Thursday if Pogba returning to Turin was an option, Raiola said: "Italy is like home for Paul".

United re-signed Pogba in 2016 from Juventus by paying the-then world-record £89m transfer fee.

Pogba is now recovering from ankle surgery and has been out for several weeks. And it seems that he will indeed leave the club in the summer later this year.

The 26-year-old has struggled with injury problems this season, and has managed only seven Premier League appearances thus far.

"He'd like to come back to Juventus but we'll see what will happen after the Euros".

Pogba had set his sights on a move to Madrid but Real's offer of £27.6m plus Colombia forward James Rodriguez got nowhere near United's £160m valuation.

However, fans were hoping Bruno Fernandes' arrival would add quality to the team's midfield and not simply replace it as it would be a case of taking one step forward and two back which has been far too common this season.

Since summer, the Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move away from United, with renewed gossip on that front emerging in the last couple of weeks alone.

"Pogba wants to play at the best levels always. but he can't escape Manchester United now, in this moment where the club is not having a good period".
