Kelly spoke Wednesday at Drew University's Drew Forum speaker series at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown.

Trump removed Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman and Vindman's twin brother from the NSC on Friday over Vindman's testimony against Trump in the House impeachment probe.

"He did exactly what we teach them to do from cradle to grave", Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general, told a crowd of students and others, according to the Atlantic. "If I just based it on what Tim Morrison said, I'm not a fan", he told Rivera. "She has always impressed me with her quiet confidence, loyalty and expertise, and I am beyond thrilled to welcome Hope back to the White House".

"DRAIN THE SWAMP!" Trump tweeted on Thursday, repeating a promise from his 2016 election campaign.

"When I terminated John Kelly, which I couldn't do fast enough, he knew full well that he was way over his head".

"I'm not a fan of Vindman", Trump added.

He said Vindman heard what appeared to be an "illegal order" and acted accordingly.

"If we're to order our young men and women in uniform to risk their lives and health in war, it should be on the basis of careful deliberation", he said.

"I was disappointed, obviously", Grisham said, and added "especially, I saw some of the comments that he made, and I was in the room with him when he actually backed the president on numerous things that he's now saying, you know, weren't great".

"I obviously wasn't happy with the job he did", said President Trump.

At Republicans' request, he removed initial language that targeted Trump in favor of a generalized statement declaring that Congress has the sole power to declare war.

Sondland had testified that he believed Trump was withholding military aid for Ukraine until an investigation was launched into former Vice President Joe Biden, and it amounted to a "quid pro quo".

Trump called Vindman's actions in the aftermath of his phone call to Zelenskiy "very subordinate".

"[Kim Jong Un] will never give his nuclear weapons up", Kelly said.

The White House said the bill "should be rejected because it attempts to hinder the President's ability to protect United States diplomats, forces, allies, and partners, including Israel, from the continued threat posed by Iran and its proxies". "And that's what that guy (Vindman) was most interested in".

Kelly has criticized Trump pointedly and repeatedly in private for months but has only said negative things publicly at paid speaking engagements.

He went on, "We need a free media". He is to be reassigned by the Pentagon.

Another Republican lawmaker, Senator John Thune, said Trump's killing of Soleimani was justified, calling the war powers resolution "an ill-advised and potentially problematic response to the president's action".

Outside the venue, some theology graduate students from Drew University organized a protest of Kelly's appearance, over what they called "Kelly's abhorrent actions" during his support of migrant family separation at the USA border as well as what amounted to a "Muslim ban" on travelers.

"I mean, he might look at and say, actually, this is kind of what I promised to people", Kaine said.
