"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will formally step down as senior royals from March 31", a spokesperson for the couple said. They will retain all of their titles - including the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Earl and Countess of Dumbarton, Baron and Baroness Kilkeel.

Other notable details that came out of yesterday's discussion included the fact that the couple will officially close their Buckingham Palace office on 1 April and be represented by their United Kingdom charity foundation going forward.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after their split from the British royal family will be undergoing a one-year trial period before details of their exit are finalized.

The news comes after reports that the palace had banned the couple from using the word "royal" in any of their branding, casting the future of their new Sussex Royal website, which they launched last month, into doubt.

"As there is no precedent for this new model of working and eventual financial independence, the Royal Family and The Sussexes have agreed to an initial 12-month review to ensure the arrangement works for all parties", the spokesperson finished. But following the pair's decision to move to Canada and lay off their entire Buckingham palace staff, there is realistically little left for them to claim within the royal family.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the announcement they were stepping down from being "senior" royals in January this year, telling the public they would be working to become "financially independent". On the 9th of March, Meghan and Harry will meet with the Queen at Westminister Abbey.

Harry is also expected to be in attendance at the London Marathon in April, where he is a patron, as well as being joined by Meghan at the Invictus Games in the Netherlands in May.

Harry will lose his honorary military ranks (including the captain-General of the Royal Marines, which in 2017 he handed his grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh), although maintaining the rank of major of the army, captain of the 3rd rank of the Royal Navy and major in the RAF. The Palace just announced that the new changes to Harry and Meghan's roles will all take effect on 31 March. On March 5, the Duke of Sussex will attend the Endeavor Fund Awards. "Discussions are still ongoing", the source says. From there, the couple will be free to focus entirely on their new Sussex Royal, the Charity Foundation and on forging their paths sans HRH titles.
