Veteran Togo worldwide striker Emmanuel Adebayor has joined Olimpia on a free transfer, the Paraguayan first division club said on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Togo global moves to the Paraguayan side on a free transfer, it was announced on Tuesday on the club social media after ended a three-month spell with Turkish side Kayserispor in December.

Adebayor is now unattached after rescinding his contract with Turkish side Kayserispor in December, but could make a return to football to join Paraguayan side, Olimpia.

Olimpia president Marco Trovato said last week that he wanted 20,000 new members to sign up in order to announce the arrival of Adebayor on Monday, though the deadline was extended by 24 hours.Shortly after revealing that 14,922 people had signed up with the club, Olimpia made the former Togo international's arrival official.

The move does include one familiar face, though, as it does reunite Adebayor with former Manchester City team-mate Roque Santa Cruz, who joined the club in 2016 and has helped lead Olimpia to titles in the 2018 Apertura, 2018 Clausura and 2019 Apertura.

Olimpia Asuncion tweeted to announce they had secured the services of a player and praised his "power and quality".

Both Adebayor and Santa Cruz joined Manchester City in 2009, but neither forward was able to truly make their mark with the club.

Despite his on-off relationship with the football authorities in Togo, he remains his country's all-time top scorer with 32 goals and played for them at their only World Cup appearance in 2006.
