California confirms third case of China virus in US

In a rare move the Indian Embassy here on Sunday cancelled the Republic Day ceremony, owing to the rising concern of the virus which has spread to all provinces except Tibet.

China temporarily halts the trade in wildlife across the country.

By January 24, the death toll in China stands at 26, with the government reporting more than 830 infections.

Authorities in the US, Nepal, France, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam and Taiwan confirm cases over the following days.

The U.S. has confirmed cases in Washington state, Chicago, and most recently Southern California.

On Saturday, Canada declared the first "presumptive" confirmed case of the virus in a resident who had returned from Wuhan.

"We anticipate that there will be limited capacity to transport private USA citizens on a reimbursable basis on a single flight leaving" Wuhan International Airport and they would be proceeded to San Francisco, California, according to the email.


Beijing suspended long-distance bus services into and out of the capital beginning Sunday.

French automaker PSA Group said it will evacuate its employees from Wuhan, quarantine them and then bring them to France.

Japan was also making preparations to fly its nationals out of Wuhan.

The Chinese community in Rome said there won't be any public celebrations of the Lunar New Year on February 2 either for the same reason.

The crisis has seen public attractions such as Beijing's Forbidden City, a section of the Great Wall, and the Shanghai and Hong Kong Disneyland parks close as a precaution.

Wuhan has been on lockdown since Wednesday night, with Chinese military blocking access to roads, transit stations and airports.

About 700 Indian students are believed to have been enrolled into several universities in the city and surrounding areas.


Wuhan is racing to build two makeshift virus-focused field hospitals within a fortnight to ease the pressure.

"We have asked the National Incident Room to pull the records for those people that were on the flight and we are getting the seat details", NSW chief medical officer Kerry Chant said.

The pressure on the supply of medical goods such as protective suits, masks and cups was greatly eased, he said, thanks in part to increased private donations.

The virus is part of a large family of coronaviruses. It can worsen to pneumonia, which can be fatal.

China would normally be celebrating the Lunar New Year holiday this week, but Wuhan's eery quarantine calm deepened on Sunday as new restrictions banned most road traffic in the metropolis of 11 million. They also called on the public to refrain from eating wild animal meat.

Investigators are closely observing whether the virus was mutating, but thus far found "no obvious signs", that it is doing so, head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control, Gao Fu, told reporters.

Authorities are now in the process of tracking down anyone who was on the flight and urging them to be tested for the virus.
