Xiaomi India spins off POCO - but no word on its next product

Poco was announced by Xiaomi India boss, Manu Kumar Jain, and is no longer a sub-brand of Xiaomi, but an independent brand.

To give you some background, Poco started off as a sub-brand of Xiaomi back in 2018.


Adding further, speaking on the delay in launch of a new Poco smartphone (or any other product), Jain said that the company did not launch any more product under the brand Poco as it took some time out to try to figure out how to improve and bring more such products to its consumers as a separate brand, independent of Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Vice President and India Managing Director Manu Jain said POCO has grown into its own identity in a short span of time. Xiaomi has announced that it is splitting with POCO and is now going to be an independent brand. "Its first smartphone, POCO F1, was incredibly successful and remains an extremely popular phone till date", a statement from the smartphone maker read. Information about who will run the company and whether Poco continues to share Xiaomi's resources or not is still a secret. "If we can offer them something compelling enough at a price point that they have never imagined before, suddenly a lot of people will show interest in availing the top technologies", Tse said in that interview. With consumers asking Xiaomi India for Poco F2 nearly everyday on Twitter, this should come as a welcome move.


That sounds like an explanation. With the company starting its own independence, we should be expecting at least one new device - perhaps the Pocophone F2 - to launch this year. Xiaomi needed POCO because its Mi and Redmi smartphone brands are known for their mid-range and low-tier smartphones. Despite the success, the company did not launch any device in 2019. This indicates that Xiaomi might handle sales and after-sale services for the upcoming Poco smartphones as well. Poco will now define its own marketing strategy.
