Warren: Sanders Is Sending Volunteers 'Out to Trash Me'

A rare sign of discord emerged on Sunday between progressive Democratic presidential contenders Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders over a report that Sanders' campaign volunteers had called her a candidate of the elite in conversations with voters.

The comments came after a Politico report appeared indicating that Sanders supporters and substitutes had received a script to tell voters in Iowa that they expressed their support for Mrs. Warren that her general support was limited to the rich and educated, a message seen as an attempt to undermine their ability to choose in an election potentially marked by populist politics.

Rose, a freshman lawmaker who has already gained a reputation for having an independent streak within the Democratic Party, said he was backing Bloomberg's bid because of the former New York City mayor's "even-keeled and visionary leadership". "The document also instructs to tell voters who are favorable toward Pete Buttigieg that he lacks support among African Americans and young people and to tell voters sympathetic to former Vice President Joe Biden that 'he doesn't really have any volunteers" and that 'no one is really excited about him.' All of the attacks relate to the electability of Sanders" top rivals". The Warren campaign declined to comment in response to the CNN report and did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment from Newsweek Monday afternoon. "Democrats want to win in 2020: we all saw the impact of factionalism in 2016 and we can't repeat it".

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is "disappointed" in the talking points being distributed to volunteers working with the Sen. "To win in November, we need a nominee who can unite a broad coalition of Democrats - who will excite every part of the Democratic party and inspires more people to join the fight".

"Elizabeth Warren is a very good friend of mine", Sanders said.

"We have over 500 people on our campaign". I've visited them all recently, and nearly to a person, voters tell me the other campaigns have nearly no presence in their cities. You heard me give many speeches.

"Democrats are taking their cues from socialist Bernie Sanders", along with the group of freshman women in the House known as "The Squad", Trump said.

"But you've heard me for months, I have never said a negative word about Elizabeth Warren, who is a friend of mine". Yes, there are some significant differences between the two candidates, especially on foreign policy (which is one of the reasons that I actively support Sanders).

Keeping eyes on the prize this year will require a united front that can strengthen progressive forces, prevent any corporate Democrat from winning the party's presidential nomination, and then go on to defeat Donald Trump. "He brings into this campaign a record which is so weak that it just can not create the kind of excitement and energy that is going to be needed to defeat Donald Trump".
