The ABC News recording was made by Igor Fruman, a former associate of Giuliani's now under federal indictment for alleged campaign finance violations, the network said.

The Trump administration responded to the ABC News story with a brief statement that did not address the veracity of the network's account.

House investigators have been working to document an nearly yearlong effort on the part of Parnas and Giuliani to have Yovanovitch removed from her post.

A spokesman for the Manhattan US attorney's office, Nicholas Biase, said regarding the recording: "I can not confirm or comment on whether the materials exist or are part of discovery in ongoing criminal litigation".

This audio recording serves as a major blow to Trump's continued insistence that he knows neither Parnas or Fruman.

"Every president in our history has had the right to place people who support his agenda and his policies within his administration", White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said.

"Get rid of her", a voice purportedly belonging to Trump says, referring to Yovanovitch, according to ABC News' transcript.

Mr. Bondy said the recording was "of high materiality to the impeachment inquiry" of Mr. Trump and that he had provided it to the House Intelligence Committee, whose chairman, Representative Adam B. Schiff, is leading the impeachment managers in their presentation of the case. "She's basically walking around telling everybody, 'Wait, he's gonna get impeached, just wait".

"Get rid of her. Get her out tomorrow".

ABC news reported that a copy of the recording is now in the custody of federal prosecutors in New York's Southern District, who declined to comment.

Near the end of the 2016 presidential campaign Mr Trump's bid was thrown into chaos when a tape from the TV show Access Hollywood saw him describing assaulting women. "I probably would have said if it was Rudy there or somebody".

"No, no, but I have a lot of people and he's somebody that I guess, based on pictures that I see, goes to fundraisers", Trump said of Parnas. Both have pleaded not guilty on the charges.

President Trump's allies say Democrats made a critical mistake by spending so much time on Joe and Hunter Biden in their Senate impeachment trial arguments, and they've given Trump's legal team no choice but give the father and son's dealings in Ukraine a starring role when they launch their defense starting Saturday. Trump has distanced himself from Parnas, and the president's supporters have questioned his credibility and motives. When the company was being investigated for corruption, Hunter's father and then-Vice President Joe Biden reportedly pressured Ukraine to fire the lead prosecutor Viktor Shokin. "But I just met him". "I don't know him at all, don't know what he's about, don't know where he comes from, know nothing about him". "I don't know if that's word for word". The second article of impeachment accuses President Trump of obstructing Congress by refusing to turn over documents or allow officials to testify in the House probe. Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate, and acquittal is considered likely.
