Jurgen Klopp remains unsure about the severity of Sadio Mane's injury but hailed Takumi Minamino for his performance when replacing the Senegal star against Wolves.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Sadio Mane after the devastating Reds forward was forced off injured in his side's 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday night.

Klopp was delighted with the 25-year-old's efforts in a battling win, secured by Jordan Henderson's header and Roberto Firmino's late strike, which came after a Raul Jimenez equaliser.

Next up for Liverpool is the FA Cup fourth-round clash with League One Shrewsbury Town (29/1), before travelling to West Ham for their Premier League game in hand three days later to round of January.

They could lose six of their final 15 games and still be crowned champions but Klopp said thinking about any defeats makes him sick.

Minamino is just the ninth Japanese player to play in the Premier League, following Newcastle's Yoshinori Muto, Leicester's Shinji Okazaki and Manchester United's Shinji Kagawa most recently. That was much more important than the next game. "But we knew we could keep going, keep fighting". I think from that everything changed and we said to ourselves, "It's possible".

"He's completely ready for that and for him, still in a new environment, a new team, he's really adapting and from a tactical point of view it was an outstanding game".

"Defensively we were organised and we played good".

Speaking in his press conference Klopp added that he wasn't even aware that the victory had put his side 16 points clear at the top of the table. "For Shaq and Millie, it's too early; Naby [Keita], we'll have to see".

Against a team like Liverpool, it's not easy to play, but we played really well. Following an admirable display against Everton in the previous round of the domestic cup competition, Minamino should retain his place in Klopp's starting XI.
