Not even 24 hours after news broke of Scangarello's departure from Denver, insiders say the Broncos are finalizing a contract with former New York Giants coach Pat Shurmur.

"After much consideration and discussion after the season, I determined that a change in the offensive coordinator would be the best for our team", Denver coach Vic Fangio said in a statement.

"Rich is an intense instructor with a terrific future in advance of him. I appreciate all of his hard work and thank him for his contributions to the Broncos", Fangio added.

Shurmur picked the Broncos, and a deal is expected to get done, according to multiple unconfirmed reports. Denver was the only National Football League team to finish this season in the bottom five in points scored, total offense, third-down percent and red zone success. I'm sure some opportunities will come up for some guys.

The 2019 season was the only Scangarello season in that role.

Stefanski is the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, who were eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday, after an abysmal offensive showing.

Scangarello, 47, had been in his first season as an NFL play-caller after a long career in college football. If it does, he will be paired with Drew Lock, who threw for 1,020 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions in five starts as a rookie this season.

Scangarello came to the Mile High city in 2019 after being the San Francisco quarterbacks coach from 2017-2018.
