Australian case of coronavirus confirmed

Some experts believe the virus is not as unsafe as the one that caused the 2002-03 outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), which also began in China and killed almost 800 people, or the one that caused Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), which has killed more than 700 people since 2012.

All 41 deaths have been in China, including 39 in Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak, and one each in Hebei and Heilongjiang provinces.

Shares in health care companies were down, along with those in financial institutions, airlines and other tourism and travel industry businesses.

Four other people in Queensland were given an all-clear earlier in the week.

In the USA, the latest person confirmed to have the disease was reported to be doing well.

Both are being treated in hospital and are stable, Vietnam health officials said.

Dr Bone said it was concerning the GP had not made any link with the man's illness and the fact he had come from Wuhan.
