Slater and Karras join three other Hawkeyes as members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame - safety Emlen Tunnell (inducted in 1967), safety Paul Krause (1998) and defensive end Andre Tippett (2008). Pearson played for the Cowboys from 1973-83. A few days after Coach Jimmy Johnson was named to the Class of 2020, the great Cliff Harris has now also been announced as an inductee.

On Wednesday, Pearson gathered family, friends and reporters to watch the Hall of Fame announcement for the 2020 class. Pearson, though, had to watch again as his name went uncalled. He even proclaimed that the National Football League "broke [his] heart." Man.

It is odd that Carmichael, who was second-team All-Decade, would get voted in ahead of Pearson who was first-team. It's a heartbreaking moment I would challenge any Cowboys fan not to be moved by. "They strung it out like this", Pearson said when the news came down Wednesday morning. In the postseason, Branch hauled in 73 receptions for 1,289 yards, an average of 17.7 yards per catch, and five touchdowns including three touchdowns in his three Super Bowl wins.

Pearson is the lone member of the 1970s All-Decade Team to not be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Cliff Harris was a star for America's Team in the 70s and JImmy Johnson was the architect for the dynasty of the 90s. There is no Hail Mary without Drew Pearson.

Hopefully the Pro Football Hall of Fame can eventually get it right and put Pearson in. His Hall of Fame story deserves to reside in Canton, Ohio forever.
