The same Parnas attorney, Joseph Bondy, who CNN cited as its source, publicly called out Nunes on Tuesday after Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee - on which Nunes is the ranking member - released phone records along with its impeachment report on President Trump showing Nunes spoke with Parnas a number of times.

Call logs that apparently obtained from AT&T and included in the endnotes of the report show at least four calls between Parnas and Nunes on April 12, amid the smear campaign against then-Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch.

Nunes claimed that the CNN report was "demonstrably false" but did not provide proof.

"You know, it's possible, but I haven't gone through all my phone records", Nunes replied.

Speaking on Fox News, Jarrett told Kilmeade it is impossible to tell how "problematic" the revelation of Nunes' reported communications, as listed in the call logs, is, because no one yet knows the "details". "He has a long and distinguished track record of deception and lies". "Remember, I'm the president's attorney".

However, committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., told a news conference later Tuesday that "the phone records show that there was considerable coordination among the parties, including the White House".

Devin Nunes (Calif.) has filed a defamation suit against CNN, seeking $435 million in damages over an "exclusive" story the outlet published alleging the congressman met overseas with former Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin "to discuss digging up dirt on Joe Biden".

As the impeachment hearings of US President Donald Trump gather momentum surrounding accusations that the president pressured Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky into investigating allegations of corruption against Joe and Hunter Biden, Trump allies are attempting to fight back.

"From all the evidence in its possession, CNN was well-aware that Parnas was a renowned liar, a fraudster, a hustler, an opportunist with delusions of grandeur, a man in financial in extremis", the lawsuit says.

"I wasn't in Vienna, and I didn't meet with this guy Shokin", he said, adding that he has photos of himself in Libya and Malta "at the time frame".
