Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have said a man has been arrested for making alleged racist gestures during the Premier League clash between Manchester City and Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

However, the game was overshadowed by an alleged racial incident that took place after United's Fred appeared to be hit by an object thrown from the crowd.

"The Club are also working with GMP regarding an instance of objects being thrown onto the field of play".

The force added that a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offense and he remains in custody for questioning.

The result, however, was overshadowed by an incident during the second half of the game that appeared to show a City fan making a monkey gesture towards a United player. "I spoke to the referee after the match, they will do something about it and that's all".

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tenure as permanent Manchester United manager has been rocky to say the least, and vastly different from his tenure as interim manager.

"I've seen it on the video".

FORMER Manchester United skipper Roy Keane said the club's 2-1 win over defending Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday will give the players much-needed confidence to shed the inconsistency that has dogged them all season.

"We will continue to work with Manchester City and Manchester United Football clubs on this incident and will investigate any other lines of enquiries".

Marcus Rashford won and then converted a penalty before Anthony Martial fired in a second after being picked out by Daniel James. In big games, they tend to concede possession, and it allows them to play to their strengths.

In his post-match interview, Ole was full of praise for his team's performance against the Cityzens, as he told the media: "I was so happy with the way we started the game, we created big chances, looked like we'd score".
