Star NFL Quarterback Could Be Benched Today

Los Angeles lost on a game-winning 53-yard field goal by Broncos kicker Brandon McManus as time expired. There are reports that Rivers could be benched for Tyrod Taylor if he doesn't turn his poor performances around. The gunslinger has made eight Pro Bowls, including three straight, and has thrown for more than 57,000 career yards and almost 400 touchdowns.

Rivers has thrown 14 interceptions on the season and his QBR is 25th in the league.

The Denver Broncos activated rookie quarterback Drew Lock off injured reserve Saturday and waived rookie quarterback Brett Rypien, but the team still isn't naming Lock the starter against the Chargers. Rivers threw four interceptions in last week's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and he has seven in LA's last two games. Head coach Anthony Lynn would prefer not to make a change under center, so he won't be quick to pull the plug, Rapoport adds.

"I didn't see it that way", Lynn told reporters postgame. He wants the same carefree Rivers who has thrived so often. "You still want to be aggressive throwing the football, but at the same time, make smarter decisions". Expect no different between the Broncos and Chargers on Sunday, as the Denver Broncos look for their only opportunity at a sweep of a divisional team this season.
