Samsung Galaxy Fold sales numbers are in

Should we all go out and try to buy the Galaxy Fold now that it's clearly a hit for Samsung? However, since the Galaxy Fold is the only foldable smartphone now available outside of China, for the moment at least Samsung's $2000 foldable phone has the western market to itself. After its release in April, many users gave feedback on problems with the Galaxy Fold. In a statement to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, a Samsung representative said that Sohn's statement was inaccurate, ant that Galaxy Fold sales have not surpassed 1 million.

Today, Samsung Electronic's President Young Sohn revealed on stage for the first time some Samsung Galaxy Fold sales figures.

When asked if Samsung is comfortable selling a Dollars 2,000 "beta" device, he said yes and cited the sales number as justification.

Following the debacle, several major carriers (and eventually Samsung) canceled pre-orders for the new device. Both the updates weigh around 1.3GB, which is lower than the 2GB update received by Galaxy S10 series. Samsung may actually release more than one foldable next year.

"Samsung is expected to sell 6 million units of its foldable phone in 2020 and 20 million units in 2021", Choi Bo-young, an analyst at Kyobo Securities, said.

The Galaxy Fold 2 will fold vertically. The smartphone features a 6.5-inch Infinity-O or punch hole Super AMOLED display with 20:9 aspect ratio. That said, the Redditors have mentioned that Google Play is broken after updating to the stable version of One UI 2.0 as well, and that's something Samsung should fix before the update starts rolling out globally. We know that the company plans to expand the A-series further, and more devices will be unveiled over the next few months. Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola are expected to announce their second-gen foldables next year, of course.
