Former Reds left-back Stephen Warnock has admitted he would love to see Mbappe in a Liverpool shirt, but believes the 2018 FIFA World Cup victor could be put off as players from the Premier League do not usually win the biggest individual accolades.

"When things aren't going well we still have a clear picture of the ideas, the way that we're going to win the game".

"I've said it already, Federation Internationale de Football Association told us the Club World Cup will be there and we have to come there".

"Let's be honest, why wouldn't they want to play under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool?" The atmosphere is incredible and so is the manager. It's very appealing to go to Liverpool at the moment.

The Liverpool FC youth graduate is the youngest player to have featured in consecutive Champions League finals, winning the trophy back in June.

"Would Mbappe go to Liverpool?"

"We knew that when we played against them and they continue doing really well".

"Why can't there be a shift?"

The Premier League leaders are one of a number of leading Premier League clubs keeping close tabs on the centre-back during his season-long loan at Elland Road. Obviously it might not happen every time but when you're going into games with that sort of mindset and belief it simplifies everything else. Whether it will happen or not, I'm not so sure.

Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the award over the last decade, apart from a shock win previous year for Real Madrid's Luka Modric.

Mbappe has scored 10 goals and assisted a further four strikes in 13 matches for PSG so far this season.

The league's all-time top scorer Alan Shearer said on the BBC: "It helps when you've got the king of assists in Trent Alexander-Arnold and you've got the defender who's scored more goals than any other defender since the start of last season, and that worked for them today".
