As VentureBeat points out, seeing the Master Chief Collection at the top of the Steam charts is a little unexpected because, Halo hype notwithstanding, the games in it-Reach, Combat Evolved, Halo 3, ODST, and Halo 4-are hardly new: The first game in the series came out in 2001, while the most recent, Halo 4, came out in 2012. It's also available on the Microsoft Store and as part of the Xbox Game Pass for PC. At the time of writing, the game had crossed 160k peak concurrent players and it was fourth in the list on Steam Stats. Halo Reach Steam players will be able to play against Windows Store players.

Xbox Game Pass - Subscribe with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta) and get Halo: Reach, the first chapter in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, today. Until then, PC players are enjoying Halo: Reach in their droves. The Halo: MCC anthology is now priced at $39.99 on both Steam and the Microsoft Store, and developers 343 Industries is expected to release PC ports of Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo 4 over the course of 2020. Halo: Reach can also be purchased individually for $9.99 Dollars. You can purchase MCC complete which will auto-update with all titles as they are released or you can just purchase Reach standalone (but it will still install the MCC shell as a launcher).

Microsoft will be rolling out the rest of MCC on PC throughout 2020, starting with Halo CE and moving chronologically after that.

If you already own Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One, the Halo: Reach Campaign and Firefight mode are now available as a premium add-on for $9.99/£6.99.

The multiplayer components of Halo: Reach, including PVP modes, Forge, and Theatre, are automatically included as part of the base content of the collection for free. In this guide, we'll take a look at the answer to "can Halo: MCC Steam users play against Xbox Game Pass?".
